I've been fat
On and off for a good part of my life. From the time I was an overweight 8 year old - described by my mother as being ‘as wide as I was tall’ - until I was in my mid-forties.
I gained and lost and gained weight following the dietary guidelines of the day. I had been interested in nutrition and health since college and I read everything I could to educate myself to manage my weight and wellness. But all I achieved by following the one-size-fits all conventional dietary wisdom was short term, short-lived success.
Then midlife hit
My metabolism and energy and clarity of thought disappeared. And I was sick. And frustrated with being that way. My old methods of losing weight just didn’t work anymore. And what I had been eating for years was actually making me sick!
I finally realized that what my own body needed was different from the conventional dietary guidelines - and everybody else.
At the time, I looked for, but couldn’t find, anyone with ‘unconventional’ dietary wisdom to guide me. So I used my extensive knowledge and great research skills to create a nutrition program specifically for my own body. I had nothing to lose except fat and ill health. With some experimentation, a deep-dive into old and new nutritional research, and listening to my body, I finally managed to gain back my health and overcome my weight issues.
A not-so-long and winding road
I didn’t follow a straight path. Managing your weight and health in midlife never is, at first. But then the weight stayed off! And the fatigue and brain fog evaporated! And it’s remained that way for years and years, with a few tweaks along the way.
I felt so good and my success was so complete that I decided to leave the corporate advertising world and pursue my dream to help other midlife women take control of their weight and wellness, too.
I became a board-certified Nutritionist
While still working part time as an Art Director making TV commercials, I went back to school to study human nutrition, earned a Master of Science Degree (MS), and sat for the board exam to become a Certified Nutrition Specialist (CNS). I now have MS, CNS after my name, but my most favorite school for nutrition education is right in my office, or on the phone, with my clients.
Since I first opened my private practice 15 years ago I’ve seen for myself what works and doesn’t work. I’ve watched hundreds of my clients successfully gain back control of their weight and health by teaching them how to think about their nutrition and lifestyle in a whole new way. I always learn something new from each client as we work together to customize their nutrition and lifestyle program. That kind of education is priceless.

I’ve always been a problem solver. Creating magazine ads and TV commercials is all about getting to the essence of a problem, solving it, and selling it to the consumer. I use those same skills as a Nutritionist – finding the root cause of your problem (whether it’s being overweight or having a health issue), figuring out the best way to solve your problem, and guiding you through the process of fixing your problem so it’s enjoyable and the results are sustainable.
To help me help you, I rely on my years of acquired nutrition and health knowledge, my excellent researching skills, keeping current in my field by attending nutrition and health seminars and conferences, and consulting with colleagues when I might not have the answer.
Additionally, I’m an Herbalist, trained in the use of Western herbs.
When I’m not working I can be found pursuing my other passion, cycling. In addition to bicycling 100+ miles every weekend around the New York tri-state area I am also a volunteer co-leader of the New York Cycle Club’s ten-week progressive cycling training series. On or off the bike I do like to share what I know and love with others!
